Agglomerates, Aggregates,
Primary particles

Agglomerates are clusters of aggregates and/or primary particles in a relatively loose punctual compound that are essentially held together by particle interactions.

Illustration showing four types of particles: green agglomerates, red aggregates, black primary particles, and light gray clustered particles.

Aggregates have a flat, form-fitting composite of primary particles or crystallites or even solid bridges between the individual primary particles.

Primary particles are clearly differentiated crystalline or amorphous particles, which are not be interrupted by fractures.
